INSPIRED BY THE NEW FLYING SPUR
Mirroring the design of the new iconic Flying ‘B’ mascot, first shown on the new Bentley Flying Spur, our collection of Flying B pieces celebrate the unique history and design of this mascot.
THE HISTORY OF THE FLYING B
A bonnet mascot was deemed the ultimate vehicle accessory in the 1920s, embodying effortless power and speed to announce your arrival in style. Artist F. Gordon Crosby created the first Flying B mascot in brass – owners of Cricklewood-era Bentleys from the mid-1920s were offered this option and it soon became a statement piece of Bentley design.
THE NEW FLYING B
Long regarded as a symbol of automotive excellence around the world, Bentley’s iconic ‘Flying B’ mascot was redesigned in 2019 in celebration of Bentley's centenary year. All Bentley designers were asked to submit a new design for the mascot – the winning design by Hoe Young Hwang was inspired by the owl. The minimalist, contemporary shape of the new design represents an owl gliding over a calm lake in pursuit of prey, the mascot’s widening base tracing out the wake created on the water.
THE NEW FLYING SPUR
The new Flying 'B' bonnet mascot is now available as an option on the Flying Spur for the first time since the 1950s. Completely redesigned for Bentley’s second century, the mascot is now crafted from stainless steel and hand-polished – with the option to have illuminating wings. The mascot automatically deploys when the car is unlocked, illuminating in synchronicity with the headlamps.
